ST. LOUIS – Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash on I- 44/ 55 near downtown St. Louis Sunday afternoon. Two people were killed when their car crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer. The crash happened just after 2:30pm near the 7th street exit.

The driver of the truck has been identified as a 47-year-old man. He says that he was driving northbound on I-55 when traffic started to slow and eventually stop because of lane closures from a construction zone. He turned on his hazard lights to warn others to slow down as his truck came to a stop. That is when he says a 2015 Volkswagen CC rammed into the back of his 2016 International Tractor Trailer.

The driver of the Volkswagon, Taron Tailor, 30, and the passenger, Nicolas Perkins, 23,  were pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the Accident Reconstruction team is handling the ongoing investigation.
