Woman identified as victim in Brighton, Illinois house fire

BRIGHTON, Ill. – The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating a house fire that claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman.

The fire broke out around 3 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Cindy Street in Brighton.

When fire and law enforcement units arrived on the scene, the house was fully involved. Firefighters were able to knock the fire down and entered the building. When they got inside, they found the body of Donna Morgan.

According to authorities, Morgan was home alone at the time of the fire.

Neighbors described Morgan as a quiet and very nice lady. Many residents came to the house when they saw the smoke and flames.

The Macoupin County Medical Examiner was tasked with conducting an autopsy.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
