ST. LOUIS - St. Louis police are investigating several violent shootings that took place overnight Tuesday, resulting in three murders in six hours. This comes on the night when neighbors met for the National Night Out Against Crime.
According to police, one man was found shot to death just before midnight in the 4200 block of W. Cote Brilliante Avenue at Annie Malone Drive in north St. Louis. Two men, 62-year-old Leroy Hunt and a 39-year-old, were walking eastbound on Cote Brilliante when a black vehicle with tinted windows approached from the westbound lanes. A suspect in the vehicle began shooting at both men. Hunt was struck and killed at the scene. The 39-year-old was uninjured.
Another man was shot and killed just after 9:40 p.m. Tuesday near Fairground Park in north St. Louis. Police said that shooting happened in the 3800 block of Lee Avenue near East Prairie Avenue. The victim, identified as 59-year-old David McLaurin, was shot several times and died at the scene. No word on any suspects or a potential motive in that killing.
And on the other side of the city in south St. Louis, a 38-year-old man was shot and killed around 6 p.m. The victim, identified as Richard MacDonald, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a home on the 1900 block of Congress Street near Lemp Avenue. Neighbors said there has been drug activity in that area. The alderman from that ward showed up shortly after the shooting and said there's an effort underway to condemn the building.
All incidents remain under investigation, police said.
