JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. - Approximately 31 vehicles were involved in three separate accidents Wednesday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
According to authorities, the accidents took place north of the Imperial Main Street exit, each a quarter-mile apart. State police closed the interstate at Vogel Road as a result.
One accident had 19 vehicles involved, with 9 vehicles getting caught in the second wreck and 3 vehicles involved in the third.
A tractor-trailer slammed into the concrete median in one of the accidents.
The cause of the accidents hasn't been determined.
Seven people were transported to hospitals with minor injuries, state police said. Between 24 and 29 vehicles were towed from the accident scenes.
