AVISTON, I L - There was a big winner in Aviston, IL Wednesday but there is an interesting twist to the Queen of Hearts drawing that’s captured the attention of thousands of big dreamers in Clinton County.
Dan Wiegmann was not present when he won. He was visiting family in California. Winners who are not present win half the jackpot. Wednesday’s drawing was worth $1,089,989. The other half will be used to start a new jackpot.
Wiegmann’s family members screamed and jumped for joy when it was revealed the Queen of Hearts was behind number 1. They said Dan is a retired farmer and his wife is a teacher and McKendree University. Relatives said their son is getting married next year so they suspect some of the winnings will go towards the wedding.
The American Legion Post in Aviston also donated $10,000 to the Shriners to help replace toys lost during last week’s massive warehouse fire. Post leaders plan to take a break from the Queen of Hearts drawings. The next drawing will be March 14th. Tickets will go on sale March 7th.
The new jackpot will begin with a jackpot worth half of Wednesday’s drawing. Weekly drawing winners attempt to guess which card is the Queen of Hearts. There were nine cards left when Weigmann picked the winner Wednesday.
