CLAYTON, MO (KPLR) - Centene broke ground Friday on a $770 million expansion project. The international healthcare enterprise is headquartered in Clayton.
The new Centene Centre will provide new office space, ground level shopping and restaurants. There will also be a civic center, auditorium, and parking.
It will be located on the corner of Hanley Road and Carondelet, creating a pedestrian friendly district with public green spaces.
The celebration included remarks from Michael F. Neidorff, Chairman, President and CEO of Centene, and Missouri Governor Eric Greitens.
Centene Centre will be a state-of-the-art facility, featuring a stunning world-class LEED Gold certified building and a pedestrian-friendly business district with open, public green spaces. New retail shops, first-class residential living and innovative architecture and artwork will create a unique setting in the heart of Clayton.
The construction will generate hundreds of jobs and, when complete, Centene Centre will deliver 2,000 job —1,000 of which will be new to Missouri — with average annual salaries of $73,000 plus benefits. The project will also provide several million dollars in new tax revenue for the City of Clayton and Clayton schools, ensuring a vibrant future for the community.
