COLLINSVILLE, IL (KPLR) – Collinsville Police have identified 21-year-old Montrea Marshall as the victim of a fatal shooting that happened at an apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

"The guy was standing outside and got shot" said Richard Sharp who lives next door.  "Got shot once and that was pretty much it" he said.

According to police, they responded to the complex in the 800 block of South Morrison in Collinsville Saturday afternoon for reports of shots fired.  When they arrived, they found Marshall in a stairway with a gunshot wound.  He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses tell police the gunman left the scene in a white vehicle similar to a Chevy Cruze with Illinois license plates.  The vehicle was last seen near the intersection of MIlburn School Road and Old Collinsville Road near O'Fallon, Illinois.

"It's aggravating because this is like a family town, you think it's quiet, calm relaxed, it's easy going so it's aggravating" said Sharp.

While police don't have a motive, they do believe Marshall and the suspect knew each other.

"It is a rare occurrence, but these two did know each other so it appears that it was some conflict between of them."
