Cell store clerk shot in south city shopping center

ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – A cellphone store clerk was critically wounded Thursday morning after a shoplifting incident at the Southtown Centre.

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. at the GoWireless Verizon store, located near the intersection of Chippewa and Kingshighway.

Police said two men came to the store and walked out with two Galaxy Edge cellphones. The clerk witnessed the theft and followed the men into the parking lot. One of the suspects turned and fired a shot at the clerk, striking him in the back. The suspects got into a newer-model, white Mercedes and drove away.

The clerk was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
