ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)- Along with all the joys of the holiday season come the scammers. But don’t be had by a Grinch! Find out how to protect yourself from online thieves.

Joe Blanchard, Lead & Senior Security Analyst with the Open Web Application Security Project tells us more.

Joe discussed online scams that seem to manifest around the holidays and how the average consumer can protect themselves.

He says scammers take advantage of the increase in online shopping and distraction of the holidays to steal personal information and money. These threats come in several packages and methods.

● How to identify fake emails and sites

● Checking your statements
