(KPLR) - Feeding bellies and feeding brains is the mission of a Collinsville woman who has convinced dozens of others to join her cause.

Fox 2's Dan Gray shows you how we are Paying It Forward to a special woman tonight.

Dana Callahan has single-handedly marshaled 16 churches and organizations in Collinsville to feed the poor and recruit tutors to help kids with their homework.

Here's what happened when Dana's friend, Linda Powers, surprised her with the Pay It Forward $500 gift card from Fox 2 and First Bank.

Dana`s work goes beyond the walls of St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ in Collinsville where she is employed. In recent years, she started the Spirit of Sharing Soup Kitchen that feeds more than one hundred people a week in the church gym, and its more than meals that is provided to the homeless.

Dana also began a homework help and hoops program that serves 60 students a day and more students are on a waiting list.  She`s an employee but so much more, as she volunteers at the church every day.

Dana says she plans to put the $500 Pay It Forward gift card from First Bank back into the ministries of the church.

Tonight's Pay It Forward is brought to you by First Bank. If you would like to nominate a deserving person for the award go to and look for the Pay It Forward page.
