Wrong-way crash in Franklin County kills 3, including a toddler

ST. CLAIR, MO (KPLR) - A two-car accident that occurred overnight Sunday claims 3 lives and seriously injures 5 others.  Just after 2:00 Sunday morning, a 2004 SAAB 2.0 was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-44 in St. Clair, Missouri when the SAAB struck a 2013 Toyota Sienna carrying 7 passengers.  The SAAB then traveled off the roadway, landing in a median.  The Sienna also traveled off the roadway.

The wrong-way driver of the SAAB, 26 year-old Robert Batson of Sullivan, Missouri, died on the scene.  The driver of the Sienna, 32 year-old Sushma Settipalli, and 2 year-old passenger Mahidhar Settipalli, both of Plano, Texas, died of their injuries.  Five other passengers of the Toyota Sienna are being treated in local hospitals for moderate-serious injuries.  All but one passenger are from Texas.  The other is from Georgia.

Accident reconstruction crews along with Missouri Highway Patrol are investigating.

I-44 westbound in St. Clair, Missouri has re-opened.
