EAST ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - A business goes up in flames in East St. Louis leaving a neighborhood without an essential business

The small corner market is a shell now, but it was a gathering place for the neighborhood.

It was opened 24 hours a day and even served up hot food.

Shortly before 8 am Tuesday morning, flames were shooting from the rooftop of the Highway 15 Market.

Bommarito Automotive SkyFox shot video of fire over the business at Missouri Avenue and 15th Street.

The flames spread quickly and it took firefighters 45 minutes to get it under control.

What's even more shocking is a few hours after the fire was out we witnessed people going into the store and helping themselves to bottles of liquor or whatever they could find.

While investigators don’t have a cause, employees saw flames coming from the kitchen and tried to put it out but it quickly spread out of control.
