KIRKWOOD, MO (KPLR) - Kirkwood Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that led to shots being fired over the weekend.

It happened early Saturday morning at the QuikTrip on Big Bend Road and Camera Ave.

"I’ve definitely never had that happen over here in this area, I didn’t expect it all, I don’t think anybody did" said Brittany Schott who works nearby.

Schott was working an overnight shift when she remembers hearing gunshots.

"We heard two shots go off and then a moment later we heard about five shots going off" Schott said.  "Then my co-worker came and told us all to get down and away from the windows because there had been shots next door" she said.

According to police, someone tried to carjack another person in the QuikTrip parking lot, pulling out a hand gun on the unsuspecting victim.  Police say the victim was also armed and the two started firing at each other.

"I think it probably saved his life, it probably saved his car so it’s pretty interesting" said Schott.  "I’m glad to see he could protect himself" she added.

No one was hurt, but police are looking for the suspect.

The suspect is describe as, 5'10 in his 20's wearing a red and gray nylon hooded sweatshirt.  He was carrying a pink and dark colored handgun and the vehicle he left the scene in was recovered in St. Louis.
