ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KPLR) - A south St. Louis County park is being renamed in memory of a fallen St. Louis County police officer.

St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger is expected to sign an executive order renaming Clydesdale Park as Snyder Memorial Park.

The idea began as an online petition, which as of Tuesday morning had more than 6,000 signatures in support.

Clydesdale Park is located in South County's Green Park community. It is the district Officer Snyder patrolled, and it is not far from where he was fatally shot while responding to a call two weeks ago. Stenger told our partners at the Post-Dispatch his office had been considering ways to best honor the fallen office, and the petition prompted him to explore the name-change idea.

Executive orders do not require the Council's approval.

The woman who organized the online petition tells FOX 2 the County Executive has invited her to the order's signing at tonight's County Council meeting.
