CLAYTON, MO (KTVI) - On the eve of the second presidential debate at Washington University, there's no mistaking the political energy is in the air.

"The excitement is just so palpable" said Sophomore Tara Gildersleeve.  "I think in high school and in previous elections it would just be a thing happening but it’s here its tangible everyone can feel it, it’s a huge moment".

Thousands of journalists and politicos from around the world are making Wash U their home for the weekend, as students are just grateful to be a part of it all.

"Before I think any election also I was younger and unable to vote, but I wasn’t as involved" said Sophomore Maddie King.  "But to have it here and to see media and to know the candidates are coming here I feel like I’m really a part of the political process" she said.

Johnathan Bridges is a Wash U freshman and says like his first year in college, his first time participating in a presidential election cycle will be just as memorable.

"Coming to college already was a crazier experience and now seeing everyone on campus for this debate, everyone in suits it’s really insane, I’m enjoying it a lot" Bridges said.

With a race for the White House like none before, Sunday's debate at Washington University is sure to be one for the history books.

"I’m actually waking up to be a security guard as a volunteer outside of the athletic complex where the debate will be held so I’m just so pumped" said Gildersleeve.  "It’s just my heart is beating so fast it’s such an exciting time" she said.
