ROLLA, MO (KPLR) – Investigators with the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who was found dead on the shoulder of Interstate 44 last Saturday.

According to Phelps County Sheriff Richard Lisenbe, a motorist reported seeing the body on October 1 just before 1:30 a.m.

Officers said the body was a Caucasian woman in a blue and red colored sundress and flip flops, with dark hair that had been dyed dark blue. She had several tattoos on her right and left shoulder blades, another on her right foot, and one on her ankle. The woman, believed to be between 25 and 35 years of age, also had a large scar on her left inner thigh.

Authorities believe the tattoos can help with identifying the body, so they made select images available to the public.

An exact cause of death has yet to be determined, Lisenbe said.

Anyone with information on this woman’s identity or the circumstances surrounding her death are asked to call the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department at 573-426-3860 or the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 573-368-2345.
