COLLINSVILLE, IL (KPLR) – High school homecomings are usually a time for reunions and creating lasting memories. But on Friday evening, those in attendance at Collinsville High School’s homecoming football game will be recognizing the loss of a young life in what’s been called a tragic accident.

It was just before lunchtime Tuesday at the high school when freshman Tray Turner was heading down the stairs from the second floor to the first; somehow he fell over the banister and suffered serious injuries. Turner, 14, died Thursday morning.

The school district’s charity, Kahok Strong, is raising funds and urging everyone to install purple porch lights in Turner’s memory.

A local florist, Cullop Jennings, is providing free helium for donated purple balloons for a balloon launch at the football game. operator Todd Duke will mark the teen’s death on his internet broadcast.

Visitation services will take place Sunday, September 25 at 4 p.m. at the Irwin Chapel. The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m., with the burial to follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates.
