COLLINSVILLE, IL (KPLR) - The Illinois Department of Transportation is closing one lane on the I-270 Mississippi River Bridge near Granite City.

The westbound right lane will be closed from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. between August 29 and August 31. The lane closures are needed to repair the driving surface of the bridge deck. The company says there aren't any plans for overnight or weekend lane restrictions.

According to IDOT, the closure is needed to repair the driving surface on the bridge deck. The same closure also took place last Thursday.

There are only two lanes each way on the Chain of Rocks Bridge, so there could be significant traffic delays with one of the westbound lanes being closed for several hours Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

IDOT is encouraging drivers to be patient and use caution in the area where the work is being performed and even suggesting drivers use alternate routes.

There will be no overnight or weekend lane restrictions.

IDOT said traffic control devices will be used to help drivers make their way through the work zone.
