ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – A stretch of major interstate in the City of St. Louis will be completely closed this weekend.

Interstate 44 between Vandeventer and Jefferson will completely shut down Friday night at 8 p.m.

Grand Boulevard over I-44 will also completely close at 7 p.m., as will several ramps in the area onto I-44. The closures are needed so crews can take down the northbound side of the Grand Boulevard overpass.

The work is part of the ongoing project to rebuild the Grand bridge.

Everything is scheduled reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

There are events this weekend which could be impacted by the I-44 shutdown. The Cardinals are at home and the Festival of Nations is also going on at Tower Grove Park.

After this weekend, traffic will go both ways on the south side of the Grand bridge while the north side is being rebuilt. Work on the south side of the bridge should be done this weekend.

The Grand bridge should be completely rebuilt by the end of this year.
