BALLWIN, MO. (KPLR) - For nearly 40 years Uncle Sam's Safari Outfitters has been the place to go for camping and military surplus goods in the St. Louis area. Its owners say the stores may soon be forced to close.
Uncle Sam's President Michael Dyer tells FOX 2 News that the inability to get out of an expensive lease agreement for one of its stores, and increased competition from nationwide retailers, are responsible for the impending closure.
Dyer says the company is attempting a last ditch effort to save the stores with the creation of a GoFundMe page, but admits the outlook is grim.
Dyer tells FOX 2 News that Uncle Sam's will share 20 percent of all donations to the GoFundMe account to local veterans charities.
