ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KPLR) - Two people are dead and another is hospitalized after an overnight home invasion in St. Charles County.

One of those dead is the suspect; the other is the homeowner who fought with the suspect.

Everything went down just before 4am on Southwinds Drive just off Salt Lick Road.

Saint Charles County Police are investigating the case.

The drug task force has also been called in because drug paraphernalia was found inside the house.

Investigators tell us a man in his early 20`s came to the home armed with two handguns.

We`re told he got inside where he confronted two people- a young man and his girlfriend- over narcotics.

A struggle started.

That`s when authorities say the young man`s father; identified by police as 53 year old Daniel Patrick Donovan came out and started fighting with the suspect.

That spilled into the home`s backyard.

During the fight, police say Donovan`s other son who is in his 20`s came outside and started fighting with the suspect as well.

That`s when gunshots went off.

When it was over, Donovan, his son who came outside and the suspect were all shot.

Investigators say both Donovan and the suspect- who has not yet been identified- died from their injuries.

The suspect died when he got to the hospital; Donovan- the homeowner- died some time later.

Police are still sorting out who shot who but they do not believe this was a random attack.

They do believe the only guns used were from the suspect.

Authorities towed the suspect`s truck from the scene.

We do not have any update yet on the condition of Donovan’s son who was shot.

Police say the suspect and one of the sons worked together at a local restaurant.
