CHESTERFIELD, MO (KPLR) – The future of Chesterfield Mall is unclear after a lawsuit was filed Thursday.  The suit seeks to give control of the mall to someone besides the company that currently owns it. Lisa Brown the business reporter at the St. Louis Post Dispatch has been following the history of the mall.  She said, “What this lawsuit does it seeks to put the mall in the hands of a new owner.”

The mall has been a favorite of shoppers like Sohini Purshoppem.  She said, “This is a frequent place I come here to shop and all my friends this is our favorite place.”

Brown added, “It puts Chesterfield Mall in a question mark as far as ownership. If a new owner takes it over anything could happen down the road.”

Apparently the two new outlet malls that opened just a few years ago have proved too much of an economic challenge. Sales immediately dropped off at Chesterfield Mall, along with more vacancies.  Cathy D’Angelo a shopper said, “I am seeing some closing. Madden: How does that make you feel? She said, I don’t like that one bit”.

The company that owns Chesterfield Mall said the lawsuit is a normal part of the process to transfer the property into receivership, the mall should continue to operate as normal.
