The crash happened just north of downtown at Tucker and Cass. Police got the call just after 11:05 p.m. Investigators tell us two vehicles were involved in the wreck, including a 2006 Hummer H3.
According to police, the Hummer was traveling northbound on Tucker approaching Cass when a Mercedes Benz—also traveling northbound—crossed over and struck the Hummer. The Hummer struck a concrete median and rolled onto its side.
Fox 2 News spoke with a man who said he was changing a tire about a block away when the crash happened. He said he and others rushed to the scene to try and help.
The man said he saw the toddler under the Hummer. He and several others were able to move the vehicle and get the little girl out from underneath it, but the toddler was lifeless.
The child, identified as Kimora McNeese-Lopez, was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead. Police said the other person inside the Hummer was taken to the hospital but the injuries did not appear to be serious.
The witness said that person was a woman who was screaming for her child.
The two people in the Mercedes were not hurt.
Police said there was a child seat in the Hummer, but could not confirm if the child was secured in the seat at the time of the accident.
