Belleville teen charged as adult in sexual assault case

BELLEVILLE, IL (KPLR) – The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged a 16-year old Belleville boy in connection with a recent sexual assault case.

According to prosecutors, Leondre McClendon and two accomplices were arrested for the crime, which occurred May 5 around 9:50 p.m. on Parkridge Drive.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, arrived home and was parking her vehicle in the garage when three people confronted her. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun.

The suspects took the woman’s keys, cellphone, and her car. Two of the suspects got into her car and drove off while the third person stayed in the garage with the victim.

Investigators said the third suspect sexually assaulted the woman and ran off. The woman sought help at a neighbor’s home.

McClendon was charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count of vehicular hijacking, and one count of aggravated possession of a stolen car. He remains jailed on $250,000 bond.

The other two suspects, also minors, still have their cases pending in juvenile court.
