GEORGETOWN, MA (WCVB) - Authorities are investigating the death of a child who was trampled by a cow in Massachusetts.
It happened at the boy's home, devastating the family and the community.
The Essex County da said the boy and his father were exercising the cows when one got spooked.
The boy's aunt says her 8-year-old nephew, George Carter, died at the hospital and that his father was also injured.
Neighbors say he was injured trying to save his son.
They say the family’s farm has been here for decades.
Most are familiar with the animals, and often shot video when the cows got loose in the neighborhood.
To neighbors, the boy's tragic death was both shocking and upsetting.
No one ever thought the normally docile cows could injure or even kill.
