Memorial held for Castlewood State Park drowning victim

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KPLR) – Sunday family friends and students at Lutheran South High School held a memorial for former student Henry Manu.  18-year-old Manu drowned Saturday night while he and a friend went swimming in the Meramec River at Castlewood State Park.

Today football teammates, family and friends all gathered on the football field this afternoon to honor and remember Manu in a memorial service.

Family and student say Manu wore number 26 with pride on the varsity football team Lutheran South High School and was an outstanding person on and off the field.

18-year-old would have been a junior this upcoming year at Lutheran South High School and scheduled to graduate in 2018.

Manu’s friend, 17-year-old Samuel Neal also drowned in the Meramec River Saturday night.  Both of their bodies were found in about 20 feet of water.

Manu’s teammates say he loved to play football and was loved by all.

Those who attended the memorial say the tragedy was an eye opener for his teammates, while his family tries to come to grip with his death.,

The principal at Lutheran South High School says grief counselors and staff will be on hand to help students deal with this tragedy.

Both Manu and Neal were from St. Louis city.
