ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – The Cardinals finally have won a series over a team with a winning record this season! The Redbirds knocked off the Giants 6-3 on Sunday night at Busch Stadium and won two of the three games in their weekend series. Prior to this series victory, the Cardinals had been 0-8-1 in series against teams with a winning record in the 2016 season. Trailing 3-1, the Cardinals scored four runs in the 6th inning, while getting just three hits. Carlos Martinez pitched six innings, while allowing three runs, but it was good enough to pick up his 6th win of the year against five losses. Trevor Rosenthal picked up his second save in as many games to raise his season total to ten. Matt Adams and Aledmys Diaz each had two hits and on RBI to lead the Cards offense. It’s back to the road for the Redbirds (30-27). They play Tuesday through Thursday in Cincinnati, then travel to Pittsburgh for games next Friday through Sunday. The Cardinals picked up a game on the first place Cubs with their win. They trail the NL Central leaders by ten games.
