Belleville man charged in Regions Bank robbery

BELLEVILLE, IL (KPLR) – The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged a 47-year-old Belleville man Thursday for allegedly robbing a local Regions Bank branch.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the robbery occurred just after 1 p.m. on Friday, May 27 on East Washington Street. The suspect handed the teller a note implying he had a gun and demanded money. No weapon was displayed. The teller complied and the suspect left the bank on foot.

Investigators eventually apprehended William Grier in connection with the robbery.

Grier was charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of financial institution robbery.

A St. Clair County judge set Greir’s bond at $150,000.
