Lincoln County burglary suspect in custody

LINCOLN COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – A Moscow Mills man was charged Tuesday in connection with a garage burglary in unincorporated Lincoln County.

According to a spokesperson for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the burglary happened May 26 in the 1500 block of Braungardt Lane. The victim told investigators a chainsaw, cordless drills, and other power tools were stolen from his garage. Witnesses identified a suspicious person in the area and believed they were responsible for the break-in.

Deputies made contact with this individual, identified as 29-year-old Wade Braungardt, who admitted to entering the garage and stealing the tools. Braungardt said he sold the equipment to 36-year-old Mark Sumpter.

Investigators went to Sumpter’s residence and recovered the stolen tools. They also found a 2002 Honda motorcycle that had been reported stolen from St. Charles County. Sumpter said he bought the tools from Braungardt for $50.

Sumpter also said Braungardt stole the motorcycle and brought it to Sumpter’s residence for repairs and safekeeping. Sumpter admitted to painting the motorcycle a different color.

Braungardt was charged with second-degree burglary and stealing, He remains in custody at Lincoln County Jail under a $10,000 cash-only bond.

Sumpter was charged with receiving stolen property and released from Lincoln County Jail after posting a $10,000 cash bond.
