CRESTWOOD, MO (KPLR) - Demolition crews began work Friday tearing down the old Crestwood Mall and crews have a long way to go before the area is cleared.

The site has been talked about for years as the mall started to decline. The city finally came up with a new plan to redevelop the site to build new entertainment, retail, and residential housing. So far, demolition crews are digging away at the multi-layered the garage, using large construction equipment like a 315,000-pound excavator.

At this point, it will at least 18 months to completely tear the mall down and get the new development under way. City officials say it will cost about $15 million to finish the job.
