MADISON COUNTY, IL (KPLR) - Madison County Illinois investigators say they arrested 40-year-old James Lopes after multiple incidents of erratic behavior over the last couple of days.

Lopes was spotted roaming around Edwardsville, Collinsville and Livingston while making lewd comments to children. After a disorderly conduct and trespassing arrest in Livingston at the Tasty Treats and outrage over disturbing and rambling post on social media, police took him into custody. Investigators say no abductions were reported but they believe his actions toward children could escalate.

Investigators say Lopes is transient and has a history of mental illness. He was also accused of an attempted sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl in Oregon. Lopes was released from that case by the courts because of his mental status.  Police say if you’ve had any contact with him to call your local police department.

Lopes being held at the St. Clair County Jail for psychiatric evaluation and misdemeanor charges without bond.
