ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The Bomb and Arson Squad is investigating a string of suspicious fires in South City. All of the blazes have occurred at vacant homes. Firefighters have found no clear pattern in the fires.

A two-story building was engulfed in flames near Jefferson and Utah Wednesday afternoon. Maria Lopez lives just a few doors down from that fire. She says the recent fire raises serious concerns because it happened next to a gas station.

This is this is the second fire this week and the third on this block. Residents say there have been more than a dozen fires in the Benton Park neighborhood since February.

Authorities say all the fires are suspicious and they are investigating.

"It is strange, and certainly the type of fires that we are seeing are certainly suspicious. They are not connected in any point that we are aware of . We are investigating them aggressively." said Captain Gregg Favre of the St. Louis Fire Department.

We are told that there is a new protocol in place when responding to fire in that area.

"With the increase in fires in the Benton Park Neighborhood the fire chief has ordered that, immediately regardless of the type of fir,e we send fire investigators as well as a police response to the scene. We want to make sure we are sending the right of resources in the area so we can put and end in to this." said Captain Gregg Favre.

Firefighters are glad no was hurt. Investigators say no arrests have been made.
