CHESTERFIELD, MO (KPLR) Tips from the public are pouring in as Chesterfield police seek to identify a dangerous shoplifting duo.
As first reported last week, police provided surveillance images of the couple entering a store in Chesterfield Valley.
Detective Robert Powell said the two suspects were armed with mace when approached by an employee at ULTA Beauty.
”As he approached them, one of the suspects basically pulled out a can of mace, and maced him,” Powell said.
The macing incident took place in late March. A week later, the pair allegedly hit other major shopping malls in Chesterfield, making off with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
Powell said the incident at ULTA is unique in some ways. But it appears to point to a larger trend nationwide.
“Here in Chesterfield, yes it’s unusual. But it does appear to be, as a whole, that criminals are becoming a bit more brazen,” he said. “Clothing, to sunglasses to men and women’s cologne, fragrances. Basically it seems like everything is fair game to them.”
Last month, three women ambushed a clerk at a children’s clothing store in Brentwood. The employee was sprayed with a chemical irritant. One of the suspects was arrested and charged; police are expecting charges on the other two individuals soon.
The man and woman wanted for robbery in Chesterfield are likely connected to similar crimes throughout the St. Louis area.
