ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)- It's municipal election day across Missouri. One of the most important items on the ballot is whether to keep the St. Louis City earnings tax for another five years.

The tax provides about a third of the city's budget and city leaders say losing it would be devastating.

Opponents say the earnings tax stifles job growth in the city and if voters reject it, the tax would be phased out over ten years, giving the city plenty time to find new revenue sources.
