ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KPLR) - A ballot blunder is causing hundreds—possibly thousands—of voters some in some 35 precincts in St. Louis Count to not be able to cast ballots at their polling place.

Eric Fey, the St. Louis County Director of Elections, said the fault completely lies with the election board.

The issue is how many ballots were printed at some precincts. Fey said at polling places with more than one ballot style, the election board flipped the numbers of how many ballots for each style were supposed to go to a particular precinct.

The bottom line? One ballot style had way too many ballots while the other had far too few, meaning many voters were not able to cast ballots because the polling places ran out.

Fey said workers are still trying to track down the exact source of the problem, but it is definitely a database error of some sort.

Election officials are telling voters to either go back later today to their polling place or come to the election headquarters office in Maplewood and vote there. Fey said more ballots were printed at the headquarters and were then delivered to the affected precincts.

Fey said authorities are considering keeping the polls open beyond the normal closing time 7 p.m. to give people more opportunities to cast ballots.

The Board of Elections has apologized for any inconvenience this has caused.
