Brentwood police searching for two armed carjacking suspects

BRENTWOOD, MO (KTVI) - The search is on for two armed carjackers who led police on a chase that started in Brentwood and ended in St. Louis City.

Investigators say the crime spree started shortly after 11pm Wednesday when two suspects tried to carjack a vehicle from the Galleria shopping center garage. The car had a manual transmission and they didn`t know how to drive it, so they ran out of the garage.

A police officer spotted the two men in Brentwood Square Shopping Center parking lot. When they saw the officer they ran into the Brentwood Forest residential area.

Police say the two armed men approached two people in a white Jeep Cherokee and demanded the keys and a purse. The victims complied and they drove off in the Jeep.

Brentwood police spotted them traveling at a high rate of speed. What followed was a long police chase that involved several agencies and ended with a crash at Natural Bridge and Clara in North St. Louis. Both suspects ran from the scene.

The carjacking victims in Brentwood Forest were not physically hurt. Residents say crime is rare here, they feel very safe.
