TROY, IL (KPLR) – A no-kill animal shelter near Troy, Illinois is in the process of building a new location and is eligible for the top prize in a nationwide rescue renovation contest.

Partners 4 Pets started as a 1,200-square foot barn in founder Lisa McCormick's backyard. At present, she and her group of volunteers are in the process of converting a house and 5,000-square foot barn into their new shelter.

The shelter is one of five finalists in Animal Planet’s ‘Pet Nation Shelter Renovation’ contest. If they win, McCormick could get up to $180,000 to put toward the new shelter.

Partners 4 Pets is known for taking on many of the special case animals who have illnesses or other issues. Beyond simply creating a new area to hold the animals, Partners 4 Pets hopes to open a training center and build a spay and neuter clinic at their new facility.
