ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – U.S. Army Sgt. Debra Millender got the keys her new, mortgage free home Thursday in honor of her military service.

Bank of America and the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals provided Millender the newly renovated home mortgage free.

Millender served 10 years in the Army, being deployed in Germany, South Korea, Kuwait, and Iraq before receiving a medical discharge in 2012.

She says the new house will give her family a fresh start.

“This is a home. This is my home. This is something that I can pass on to my family,” Millender said. “My kids can go off anywhere in the world and they can come back knowing that this is home. I'm very blessed, very thankful."

Millender is also slated to earn her Bachelor’s degree later this year.
