Three dead after crossover accident on Highway 61 near Wentzville

WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KTVI)- Three people are dead and one is in critical condition after an accident on Highway 61 south of route W. Southbound lanes of the highway are closed.  Traffic north of Wentzville backed up on in both directions.

The Accident Reconstruction Team is working to figure out just what caused this crashed that killed three people, including two young children.

The Missouri Highway Patrol has confirmed 3 fatalities in this crash that happened around 7:45am. They tell FOX 2 that the victims are a woman, 8-or-9 year old child and a young infant.

Police say a driver traveling northbound told them he hit a patch of ice, lost control, and clipped the small, red sedan with those three victims inside.

The impact forced both vehicles across the median crashing into another car in the Southbound lanes of Highway 61.

Both drivers of the other two vehicles are OK. One had minor injuries and is being treated at the hospital.

Investigators are still working to figure out what caused the crash.
