Our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch report the University City Council approved matching loan money set aside by the Loop Special Business District to offer $100,000 to struggling shops.
The Loop Trolley is a $50 million project that started in the spring of 2015. During the heart of the construction, it was difficult for shoppers to get to and around the neighborhood.
Critics say the project's cost is too high and duplicates public transportation already available since Metro Link runs between Forest Park and The Loop.
One business owner who had to shut down blames the Trolley. Supporters feel it could invigorate business in the area.
So far five businesses have claimed about half the loan money available. The debt is completely forgiven after three years as long as the places that received the funds are still operating after three years.
Delmar is much easier to navigate now. Most of the heavy construction was completed in November.
The rest should be finished by summer and trolleys should be running by late fall.
