ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - It was a common scene all day long, lines of people waiting to buy Powerball tickets at stores in more 40 states including Missouri and Illinois. The jackpot is $1.5 billion.  Roger Wood is playing, “I buy one ticket a year this is my one.”

When the jackpot is sky high new players join the fun. Jamira Watkins said, “This is my first time playing…everybody’s playing I don’t want to miss out on it.”

The owner of the 7-11 store in Maryland Heights claims his store is like a rabbit’s food when it comes to winning. Owner John Gallagher said, “The store is very lucky…last four years we have had 3 $30,000 winners out of here on a scratch off.”

And, he said business booms when the lottery jackpot soars. Sales of other items like snacks and sodas double.

Missouri is the second luckiest state when it comes to Powerball winners.
