ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - A levee breach at the Grand Glaize Water Treatment Plant in Valley Park Thursday is causing more problems for the Metropolitan Sewer District. MSD spokesperson Sean Hadley discusses the continuing problems.

The River crested about 5 feet above the Grand Glaize Treatment Plant grounds. All equipment had been previously moved from the facility. Pumping and treatment continued until about 6:00am Thursday when the sandbag levee was breached. The plant was shut down and personnel evacuated.

MSD has immediately started operations to get the pump station at the treatment plant running as soon as possible.

There is a large amount of river water that entered Fenton Treatment Plant through the sewer system on Monday night. MSD says that forced the shutdown of the plant. On Wednesday, the plant levee was overtopped and the plant completely flooded.
