ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – MSD officials sent a diver in a manhole Sunday for some flood remediation efforts. That project happened at Riverview and Hall. The diver put a plug into a 24-inch hole so the Mississippi river does not back-up into the storm sewer system.

MSD is now in 24-hour operation mode. They have activated pump stations on the floodwall, and those will be staffed around the clock.

“As we get this amount of rain the ground is saturated with water. It has nowhere to go so it backs up into homes. We’re responding to those calls and making sure we’re on top of it.” said Sean Hadley of MSD.

Hadley says MSD has received more than 1,000, mostly regarding basement back-ups, in north county, University City, Florissant, and Hazelwood.

Eight MSD crews have been responding to calls since the rain started.
