TAYLOR SPRINGS, IL (KPLR) -A weekend crash killed two people south of Hillsboro, Illinois. The victims are Shayla Williams, 18, and her boyfriend, William Brennan. He was 22 and everyone called him Billy. The accident happened just before 2:00am Sunday in a rural area on Illinois Rt. 127, about a mile and a half from the town of Taylor Springs. Illinois State Police say Shayla was the driver and that she and Billy were heading north when the car left the road and struck a tree.

According to a spokesperson for the Williams family who did not want to be identified,  Shayla had been fighting a drug and alcohol problem for about two years. The spokesperson also says police found synthetic marijuana in the car.

The family does not know where the couple had been or where they going when they crashed. Word of the accident spread quickly to the couple’s friends and neighbors.

The crash is under investigation by the Illinois StatePolice accident reconstruction unit. Autopsy results are pending.
