ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - This "Pay It Forward" segment demonstrates how one person can make a difference.

Dawn Hosna founded the group "Moms on a Mission" less than a year ago and already it has more than 2,000 members who reach out to the homeless. One member who nominated Dawn paid a surprise visit to her home in Dupo and presented her with the "Pay it Forward" award of $500 on behalf of FOX 2 and First Bank.

During our visit this Christmas season we found Dawn on the floor of her living room organizing donated purses.

"We fill them with women's products and a lot other much needed items. Hot hands, toothpaste, hygiene items, scarves, gloves and we hand them out to our homeless sisters on the street." said Dawn Hosna.

Several times a month she goes to the streets in the bi-state and gives food, clothing and supplies to needy individuals and families. This single mother of three young boys knows the realities of making ends meet.

"Often I need just as much help as the people I`m helping so this means a lot. Christmas is coming, I have three small children." said Dawn Hosna.

Dawn`s love and caring attitude is evident when you walk up to her home. Two large plastic containers are on the lawn to collect donations and food.

"Everybody`s given a path that they`re supposed to be on and that`s just why I`m supposed to do like it. It`s what I feel is right. You know." said Dawn Hosna.
