STE. GENEVIEVE, MO (KPLR) – A Ste. Genevieve man is behind bars after going on a crime spree, and assaulting a police officer.

Investigators say it all started Friday evening in Cape Girardeau, when Dustin Akins hit his grandmother with a fire extinguisher.

Later that evening the Missouri Highway Patrol was called to a home in St. Genevieve where they found Akins ramming a woman’s vehicle with his truck.

A trooper reached into the truck in an attempt to stop Akins.  But the suspect put the vehicle in reverse, dragging the officer.  Another officer at the scene then fired at Atkins, hitting him in the back of the head.

Akins was taken to a St. Louis hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The officer suffered minor injuries.  Akins is facing several charges, including assault and resisting arrest.  He was on probation for a previous stealing charge.

His bond has been set at $100,000.
