Silex mayor killed, two others injured in crash

LINCOLN COUNTY, MO (KPLR) – Mayor of Silex David Rice died early Friday morning following a collision in Lincoln County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. He was 67.

According to state police, the accident happened around 7:05 a.m. on Route E, just west of Route RA.

Mayor Rice was traveling eastbound when a car traveling westbound crossed the dividing line and struck him head-on.

Mayor Rice was rushed to Progress West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Silex Alderwoman Dorothy Ford, 71, was in the car with Rice. She was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis and remains listed in serious condition.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 17-year-old, was also seriously injured and taken to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis.

All three people involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, state police said.

Mayor Rice is survived by his wife, a son and daughter, and their grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are still pending.

Silex is about 70 miles northwest of St. Louis.
