ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)- In this week's Conservation Connection, Dan Zarlenga tells us about Share the Harvest. It's a charitable program to distribute deer meat donated by hunters to people in need.

Missouri`s Firearms Deer Season runs from November 14th through the 24th.

The program is unique because donations of canned goods and breads, etc. are fairly common, but meat donations are much more rare.

Zarelenga says hunters can donate either all or part of any deer they harvest. They bring their deer to an approved meat processor, who processes it into ground meat and packages it for distribution.

The venison is then distributed to various food pantries and given to people in need.
