ST. LOUIS MO (KPLR)-Support from the community continues to grow for an Army veteran who was shot during an armed robbery following a Cardinals game in September.  A fundraiser was held for Chris Sanna Saturday night at Du Bowl Lanes on Lemay Ferry. The big surprise came when Sanna made an appearance.

Friends and family were raising money to help cover Sanna’s medical bills . The group had no idea Chris would be there to say thank you and were thrilled when he entered the bowling alley. It was the is first time in five weeks Sanna had left the rehab facility where he's recovering.

Chris continues to work every day to build his strength and learn how to live his life after being paralyzed.

Earlier in the week ,the Gary Sinese Foundation began rennovation work on Sanna's home to help make it wheelchair accessible.  St. Louis firefighters are also volunteeing their time to help Sanna live independently.

Sanna says there's many more weeks of rehab ahead as he continues to recover.  He hopes to be home by Christmas.
