ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - It’s Election Day across the St. Louis area, and the polls have just closed.

Several issues are on the ballot including proposed property tax increases in Mehlville and Kirkwood school districts.

Both districts say they want to retain and train top flight teachers among other things. School bond issue campaigns are run completely different from other ones.  Organizers almost secretly target supporters, like the parents of students.

They ignore and hope that folks like empty nesters, who are likely to vote against the issue don`t show up at the polls.

Ken Warren is a political science professor at St. Louis University, he`s run bond issue campaigns in the past, and he`s found in polling that wealthy home owners are more likely to approve the issue even though it will cost them more than folks who own smaller house.
